2005 Season - Week 21

BUMSBowl X

Congratulations to Cheryl who held on by 1 point to defeat John 15-14 after neither Darrell Jackson nor Joe Jurevicius could get into the end zone on Seattle’s last drive. That was Cheryl’s first victory in the BUMSBowl – she was defeated 25-1 by Chief in her only other appearance back in 2000. John has now been to 4 BUMSBowl’s but was only victorious in 1997 defeating Daz 31-27. All-BUMS 2005 The voting was wide-open and as with last year 47 players and coaches received at least 1 vote to make the team. Understandably Shaun Alexander received the most votes (32) and made his fourth All-BUMS team in 5 years, with his first start. Marvin Harrison makes it 5 in a row (4 as a starter). Hines Ward starts for the second time. Carson Palmer is the starting QB while Tom Brady also makes his first All-BUMS appearance. Along with Alexander, LaDainian Tomlinson starts in the backfield for the second consecutive year. Jay Feely was the starter in 2002 and returns as a starter this year. There was a tie for the coaches between Bill Cowher (3rd time, 1st as a starter) & Mike Holmgren who also started way back in ‘96. Draft Order In the same way the play-off seeding works the draft order is based on lowest to highest scorer irrespective of division. Therefore Ron is on the clock while Daz will have the 16th pick. The full order is Ron, Phil, Paul, Dave G, Wayne, Aaron, Johnny, Marcus, David S, Andy H, Chief, Mark, John, Cheryl, AP and Daz. There will be an extra pick at the end of the 5th round for Aaron who cut his 1st year franchise player Daunte Culpepper after his devastating knee injury (that’s Daunte’s knee not Aaron’s). Superfood As always a huge thanks to Cheryl for feeding the 7 hungry BUMS in attendance. Supergames With all her culinary efforts it was only fair that Cheryl should turn the largest profit, predicting the exact half-time score and the leader after all 4 quarters correctly. She won £16. Embarrassingly for the 8 BUMS brains that played the games no-one predicted the 1st scorer (Josh Brown), or the 2nd (Roethlisberger) or the 3rd (Jeff Reed) or the 4th (Willie Parker), or the 5th (Jerramy Stevens). Thankfully Marcus had the last player to score (Hines Ward) and so won £8, as did Andy H (for the highest scoring team) and Mark (final score). BUMS on Seats The Superbowl may be over but there is one last gathering scheduled for next Monday at 6:30pm as we meet at BUMS HQ to see the AFC take on the NFC in the Pro-Bowl.
